MICU is hiring a Director of Member Engagement and Administration.
We are seeking an accomplished, driven, entrepreneurial leader to serve as our Director of Member Engagement and Administration to help the organization drive its strategic priorities. Higher education institutions are dealing with constant shifts in how they approach their work and those they serve. MICU is uniquely positioned to help Michigan’s independent, nonprofit colleges and universities advance innovation, develop collaborative solutions, and to drive cost savings and business solutions. In collaboration with the President and Vice President, the Director of Member Engagement & Administration is responsible for retaining and growing membership participation in the programs that MICU administers and expanding/developing new member service lines.
This position also serves as the first point of contact for staff at MICU member institutions– leading planning and execution for certain events including, but not limited to, advocacy day, the safety symposium, and annual in-person working group meetings. The ideal candidate is an outstanding listener, quick learner, excellent communicator and relationship builder. The Director will conceptualize and identify opportunities for new programs based on the priorities of the membership. They are comfortable creating their own processes and working in a flexible environment. They have a natural ability to learn the key business drivers of the membership as well as internal challenges and opportunities, while always putting members first.
Essential Job Functions
Service existing MICU members, ensuring member satisfaction with MICU benefits and offerings.
Increase the usage of MICU insurance products and other member service programs through marketing and communication efforts.
Maintain and continuously improve existing initiatives as well as initiate new programs when relevant for the membership
Member service program management involves analysis and research alongside constant listening to stakeholder feedback. New and existing programs will involve management of budgets, timelines, convenings, and deliverables along with leading vendors on behalf of MICU.
Resolve any pricing or coverage issues to the satisfaction of both the vendor and the member.
Provide quality customer service to all who interact with MICU via email and in-person contact.
Provide basic administrative support when needed with MICU’s website and other similar technology.
Oversee the Workers’ Compensation Fund and administer the Multiple Employer Retirement Plan under the leadership of MICU’s president.
Coordinate several of MICU’s working groups, including planning meetings, aiding group chairs in creating agendas, attending meetings, taking notes, and facilitating.
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
We are seeking someone with a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years’ administrative business office experience in higher education, ideally administering insurance programs (Workers’ Compensation, Property/Casualty) or managing risk.
This position will work a hybrid schedule, with an expectation to be in our Lansing office or member campus a few times a week after the initial onboarding process. This position requires some in-state travel, therefore, a valid drivers’ license is required.
Compensation and Benefits
MICU offers a competitive salary and benefits package including healthcare, dental, and other insurances as well as a 401(k) match. The starting salary range is $95,000-$110,000 with potential for growth based on specific candidate qualifications.
