Michigan lags four other Midwest states in student financial aid
Low-income students in 4 out of 7 Midwest states invest more in college financial aid per student than Michigan. The current maximum Michigan Achievement Scholarship at a 4-year public or independent, nonprofit college or university is $5,500. Indiana, on the other hand, provides up to $12,400 per student.
Student financial aid can be credited with increasing enrollment and degree completion.
Minnesota recently had to reduce the maximum grant for students due to budget challenges and is STILL able to offer nearly $7,000 per student.
The Michigan Achievement Scholarship was a groundbreaking investment. To keep the momentum, the State of Michigan needs to do more to stay competitive with neighboring states.
