Transfer relationships strong with community colleges
Not every college graduate in Michigan completes their college career at the same institution where they started. In fact, many students start their postsecondary education at a community college then transfer to the four-year institution.
Some students start at one four-year institution before transferring to another that may offer a specific program or a better fit for that student.
Transfer relationships are strong between community colleges and independent, nonprofit colleges and universities in Michigan.
For all transfer student graduates from independent colleges and universities in Michigan, 45 percent spent two or more years at community college and another 22 percent spent one year at a community college before transferring.
