Private investment creates jobs
Michigan’s independent colleges and universities are actively expanding to deliver opportunities for students. As they do, they provide infusions of private capital into their communities and the state of Michigan. Because these projects are funded with private investment, there is no cost to students or their families.
These privately-funded building and infrastructure projects have a powerful economic impact.
Between 2008 and 2018 the $1 billion in direct capital investment spending by Michigan's independent colleges and universities created and supported nearly 6,500 jobs for Michigan workers. Without these investments, many of these jobs would not exist.
An additional 1,000 jobs for Michigan workers are expected to be created or supported by planned investments in the coming five years.
