Michigan Independent Colleges & Universities (MICU)www.micolleges.org, the voice of Michigan’s not-for-profit institutions of higher education, is looking to add a dynamic team member to our newly created hybrid position.  Serving as both Membership Services Coordinator and Office Lead will require a high degree of organization and attention to detail.  As Membership Services Coordinator, you will be responsible for growing membership participation in the insurance pool programs that MICU administers and expanding/developing new member service lines.  Additionally, as Office Lead, you will be the first point of contact for MICU – answering phones and greeting visitors, maintaining the schedules for MICU’s small staff and performing basic bookkeeping duties.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong customer service and problem-solving skills.  The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, energetic and able to change direction quickly.  If you have at least three (3) years’ administrative business office experience in K-12 or higher education, ideally administering insurance programs (Workers’ Compensation, Property/Casualty) or managing risk then we want to hear from you! 

MICU provides paid time off, fully funded health insurance, generous retirement contributions, and an environment where you will be valued. POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:                                 Membership Services Coordinator/Office Lead

Position Description:

This hybrid position serves as both Office Lead and Membership Services Coordinator for the organization.  As Membership Services Coordinator, this position will be responsible for growing membership participation in the insurance pool programs that MICU administers and expanding/developing new member service lines.  Additionally, as Office Lead, this position will be the first point of contact for MICU – answering phones and greeting visitors, maintaining the schedules for MICU’s small staff and performing basic bookkeeping duties.

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

High school diploma required with a Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Minimum three (3) years’ administrative business office experience in K-12 or higher education, ideally administering insurance programs (Workers’ Compensation, Property/Casualty) or managing risk.  This position requires some in-state travel, therefore, a valid drivers’ license is required.

 

Position Requirements (Skills & Abilities):   

  • Demonstrated understanding of business services as it relates to the education sector.
  • Knowledge and expertise in insurance exposures, coverages and/or administration.
  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping or accounting procedures and practices.
  • Strong software and technical skills, including proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and follow processes, demonstrated good judgement on when and how to deviate from processes and/or identify and escalate issues.
  • Ability to adapt as new situations arise.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Service existing MICU members, ensuring member satisfaction with MICU benefits and offerings. 
  • Increase the sales and usage of MICU insurance products through marketing and communication efforts.
  • Resolve any pricing or coverage issues to the satisfaction of both the vendor and the member.
  • Provide quality customer service to all who interact with MICU via phone or in-person contact.
  • Manage the schedules for senior MICU staff.
  • Provide basic bookkeeping support – Invoicing, AP/AR (in Quickbooks).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Physical Expectations:

  • Physical activity that often requires keyboarding, sitting, phone work and filing.
  • Physical activity that frequently requires extensive work sitting at a computer.
  • Physical activity that frequently requires lifting under 30 lbs.
  • Physical activity that sometimes requires travel via car.
  • Physical activity that sometimes requires bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, kneeling and/or twisting.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.  Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face to face (in English) for long periods of time.

 

Minimum Environmental Expectations: 

This position requires working indoors the majority of the time.  Travel approximately 15% of the time via personal vehicle is required (mileage reimbursement applies).  Typical workweek may be more than 40 hours per week depending upon member needs and will require independent judgement on additional hours required.  Evening and weekend meetings or conferences maybe required.  This position deals with many deadlines and could be stressful at times.
