Robert serves as the President of the Michigan Independent Colleges & Universities (MICU), a position he’s held since February of 2013.

Robert comes to MICU most recently as the Director of Education Policy and General Counsel for the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD), a position he held for eight years. At MISD, Robert served as the chief advocate for the ISD and its 21 constituent districts presenting information, observations, opinions and arguments to federal and state regulatory agencies, legislators, key staff members and other public officials whose actions and positions affect education policy.

For MICU, Robert navigates the ever-increasing maze of legislative and regulatory challenges to develop and implement aggressive offensive and defensive legislative strategies and build coalitions of diverse interest groups.

Robert brings to MICU a blend of education policy, legal and political experience to build on the successes of the organization. His extensive career in government began in 1990 as aide to the Speaker of the Michigan House and then his hometown congressman.  Additionally, Robert served as a law clerk in the Office of Counsel to the President of the United States in Washington, DC.  He has also practiced law at Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, PLC and Clark Hill, PLC in Lansing, MI.

Robert holds a JD, cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center as well as a BA in finance from Michigan State University. Robert is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan, the United States District Court (Eastern and Western Districts) and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Additionally, Robert sits on numerous boards and commissions.

Robert is married and has three children.  The LeFevre family resides in DeWitt, MI.
