Greater Impact, Higher Purpose: MICU Member Economic Footprint Report

Economic Footprint Report Michigan Independent Non-Profit Colleges and Universities
For more than 150 years, Michigan’s independent colleges and universities have offered highly distinguished, effective opportunities for postsecondary learning. Our 25 not-for-profit institutions—with more than 80 campuses and satellite locations serving 104,000 students across Michigan—are nationally known and respected for their distinctive academic, cultural, and economic contributions. Each of our schools is unique. Some are small, offering top-notch liberal arts and sciences programming in the context of a particular heritage or religious tradition. Others are large and dynamic, supporting strong applied learning and online options for students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. But as much as our institutions differ, they share a singular purpose: creating a highly educated and skilled workforce here in Michigan. We answer that challenge with high-impact learning and engagement programs, a global perspective, and forward-leaning innovations. With smaller class sizes, higher graduation rates, and impressive job placement, independent colleges and universities deliver excellence for the people of Michigan. The best news? We’re only getting better.
